Ditch Your Snow Chains And Put On Some Socks.

There are always a few products at SEMA that lack glitz and glamour but are all about pure function; the AutoSock is one of these. Developed in Norway, the AutoSock is a great alternative to bulky snow chains and spiders. The AutoSock is made up of “high-technology” fibers. These fibers provide additional grip in snowy and icy conditions. The Socks are simple to install. Simply slip them over the drive wheels as far as possible, then pull forward a tad and pull them over the rest of the wheels. The Socks are self-centering and will even works with studded tires.

According to their website, the AutoSocks are more effective than snow tires, and even more effective than chains in certain situations. But the big advantage of the Sock system is that they can be fitted to cars that have minimal clearance between the tire and wheel-well unlike snow chains. Because there are no straps, hooks or bolts holding them in place, they also work well with alloy wheels that could be damaged by spiders or chains. The Socks are machine washable and come with their own carrying case to keep your trunk dry. Worried about durability? The AutoSock has passed the same durability and distance tests as snow chains.

The AutoSock is not available in the US as of yet, but look for it to be on the market in the not too distant future.
